Vice Chairman Zhao Jie represented our Center to attend a reception on the occasion of the 72nd Independence Day of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
A grand celebration was held in Grand Ballroom, Grand Hyatt Hong Kong on 14th January 2020, marking the 72nd Independence Day of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Myanmar and China. Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam, Mrs. Myat Thuzar Than, Consul General of Myanmar to Hong Kong, Mr. Edward Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr. Zhao Jiankai, Deputy Commissioner, MFA Commissioner's Office in the Hong Kong SAR attended the reception. Mr. Zhao Jie, our Center Vice Chairman also attended on behalf of the Center.
The year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Myanmar. On January 17, Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay his first visit to Myanmar in his current capacity, the first time a Chinese leader has done so in nearly two decades. Myanmar has been an active partner in Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) cooperation. The two sides are expected to deepen high-quality cooperation within the framework of the BRI and promote the development of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor. Our Center will continue to focus on the Belt and Road development and to contribute by identifying opportunities for Hong Kong under the support of macro policies.
