Our Centre signs cooperation agreement with The Belt and Road Council for the Promotion of Business
Seminar for learning the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and business development on Belt and Road conference was held on 27th October, 2017. It’s our pleasure cooperate with HKFOCA and the cooperation agreement was signed on that day.
During the seminar, Mr. Xia Fudong, the Director-General of Economic and Technological Department of of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council; Mr. Yu Kwok Chun, the Standing Committee Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and President of Hong Kong Federation of Overseas Chinese Associations; Mr. Lam Kwong Siu, GBS,SBS, Vice-chairman, BOC International Holdings Ltd and honorary chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Overseas Chinese Associations, the Chairman of The Belt and Road Council for the Promotion of Business; Mr. Shum Ka Sang, Vice President of Hong Kong Federation of Overseas Chinese Associations Limited, Member of The Chinese Overseas, Executive Commissioner of the Political Consultation Committee of Tianjin City; Mr. Chan Nap Kee, the Chairman of our Research Centre share their views on Belt and Road Development.
Mr. Xia mentioned that Mr. Xi Jin Ping, the Party Secretary General cum Chinese President, attach importance to the participation of Hong Kong and Macau citizens in Belt and Road Development. Therefore, Mr. Xia listens to the view from different parties, especially how to let more oversea Chinese participate more in Belt and Road Development. He hopes that overseas Chinese can discover the new business opportunities while promoting the Belt and Road Development.
Moreover, Mr. Chan, the Chairman of our Research Centre, said that under the Belt and Road Development, Hong Kong is the most suitable city to be “Super Connector” role due to its uniqueness. First, Hong Kong is under the “one country two system” and only Hong Kong is under Common Law which all of the main financial centres are under Common Law. Moreover, English is a global language, is used for business communication in Hong Kong. The free economy of Hong Kong with positive non-interventionism of HKSAR makes stability and integrity of the financial system of Hong Kong, and the Foreign Investors have more faith in Hong Kong business environment. Mr. Chan mentioned that although the GDP of Hong Kong is lower than that in China, the Foreign-exchange reserves of Hong Kong increase to over US$ 400 billion this year, while the Foreign-exchange reserves of China decrease from US$ 32817.75 billion last year to 31885.17 billion this year. Mr. Chan suggested that Hong Kong can be fortune management role in Mainland China. Besides the business cooperation, the cultural exchange and connection is also the main focus of Belt and Road Development. He suggested that Hong Kong Government should care more the ethnic minority group, as they are born and bred in Hong Kong and they understand both Chinese and Belt and Road Countries culture, they can help connecting Hong Kong and Belt and Road Countries enterprises. Also, Hong Kong Government should adjust local education, such as adding Russian language courses in schools, so we can be a better “Supper Connector” in Belt and Road Development.
